The theme for the annual Mardi Gras party was 'Say something'.
Gay icon Dannii did and encouraged everyone to think before they speak. The dance diva commented on people saying 'that's gay', asking just what exactly do people mean by saying that. Because no music style, joke, trend etc can by gay. It's a sexual lifestyle.

Many are to this day still being harassed and picked on for choosing the same sex partnership and marriage. Last year Dannii showed her support for same-sex marriages, taking part in rallies with a special recorded message to the protesters.

Dannii has long been regarded an icon and role model for gay & lesbians for the way she handles harassments and such in her public life for being who she is. In 1999 she headlined Mardi Gras and released a single 'Everlasting night' on the first ever gay/lesbian record label. The video saw Dannii with gays, lesbians & drag queens.

For years she has been rumoured to make a comeback on the Mardi Gras parties but so far it's all been false.

Welcome to the 30th anniversary of Sydney's Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. Thirty years ago, the world was not as accepting of diversity. But Mardi Gras has been a force of positive change and celebration. So I raise a glass (and a false eyelash) to all the brave men and women who led the way and put Sydney on the map as the gay capital of the world. Having performed twice at the Mardi Gras party, I know there's no hotter place in the world than Sydney right now. Whether you're a newbie or an old hand, get your party shoes on and let Time Out be your guide.

We got a party to go to tonight!
In 1999, Dannii was approached by Mardi Gras Records to help launch the first ever gay and lesbian record label with a singles release. She re-recorded "Everlasting Night", a song originally recorded in 1995 for her unreleased album with Mushroom International. The song became the official label anthem of 1999, & D performed at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras for the second year in a row. She performed it on the show coming down on a half moon wearing a silver dress, jumps down, ripped of the bottom part of the dress and kicked off the event.
The vwas also very controversal. Dannii directed the video shot at l. Dannii's showing her support for gay's & lesbians by kissing another woman. These were also the pp used for her previous Mardi Gras performances.
Dannii who co-wrote the track (recorded 1995 for Mushroom) had also performed the track in the mid 90's but wite techno dance feel to it. So with a bit of sparkle and a little bit of magic, she transformed it into a disco tune. It went to no 1 in the club charts in Oz..

Dannii first appeared on the Mardi Gras, Australia 1998.
It was also their 20th year anniversary.
